Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Profile
Everett Community College (EvCC) is hiring for an Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (AVP-DEI). The AVP-DEI position is an opportunity for an experienced individual to join an institution that is a leader in equity and inclusion efforts. EvCC is looking for equity-minded applicants who demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds present in our community. The ideal candidate will have a documented history of successfully developing and advancing diversity and inclusion programs in a complex organization coupled with in-depth knowledge of pedagogy, theory and practice.
EvCC educates more than 19,000 students every year at seven locations in Snohomish County, with most students and faculty at the main campus in north Everett. Faculty and staff at EvCC work closely with business and industry experts, tribal nations, community leaders, and other educational institutions to provide students with relevant, challenging experiences inside and outside of the classroom. EvCC serves 31% students of color, with staff and faculty of color steadily increasing over the last 5 years to roughly 20%.
Located about 25 miles north of Seattle, Everett is the largest city in the county and a dynamic part of the Puget Sound region. Snohomish County offers outdoor adventures in the Cascade and Olympic Mountains, as well as the Puget Sound.
EvCC’s mission is to educate, equip, and inspire each student to achieve personal and professional goals, contribute to our diverse communities, and thrive in a global society. Furthermore, the College’s vision, strategic plan, and core themes value, respect, and uphold equity, cultural competence, and inclusion. To advance this vision, we acknowledge the need to build and sustain an internal culture of respect, foster a sense of unity and cohesiveness across the college, and actively strengthen communication and cooperation across all constituencies.
In recent years the College, alongside our communities, co-created the 5 Dimensions of EquityTM, a shared understanding of educational equity and a framework to guide our work as we engage in the adaptive challenges to become the institution we aspire to be. We embrace critical learning and reflection as tools for analyzing power and oppression in order to eradicate persistent social, political, and economic inequities that negatively impact our students, including underserved and underrepresented groups. We acknowledge we are early in our equity journey and understand the road to transformation is long. We are excited for the opportunity to be joined by a new AVP-DEI who seeks to advance a culture of equity, inclusion, and social justice, in order to positively transform the EvCC experience for students and staff. EvCC is committed to hiring an Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, that exemplifies the vision, mission, and core values of the College.
