Student Spotlight - Chloe Correa

Coming from a family of nurses, Chloe Correa has always known she wanted to be part of the healthcare profession. Correa chose Everett Community College because she had heard great things about the close-to-home nursing program. "The skills I learned while in the EvCC nursing program are foundational to the nursing practice I am building in the real world," says Correa. "Everett's program really emphasizes the safety, compassion and empathy that are needed in nursing." She intends to put her skills to work helping patients in an intensive care unit.
Tell us a little bit about yourself, including the degree or certificate you earned at EvCC.
My name is Chloe Correa, and I graduated from EvCC with my associate degree in nursing.
Why did you choose EvCC?
I chose EvCC because I heard great things about their nursing program and it was close to home.
What's next for you after graduation?
Hopefully a job working in a step down or tele unit. Eventually working in an ICU (intensive care unit). I also want to pursue further education and get my bachelor's of science nursing degree and eventually go back to graduate school to either become an NP or CRNA after getting some floor experience.
What inspired you to pursue your area of interest?
I've always known I wanted to be in healthcare and I have a lot of family members that are nurses.
How are the skills you learned at EvCC helping you reach your goals?
The skills I learned while in the EvCC nursing program are foundational to the nursing practice I am building in the real world. Everett's program really emphasizes the safety, compassion and empathy that are needed in nursing. The program does a really good job at helping you learn to think critically because in nursing no two situations might be exactly the same, and you'll have to learn how to think on your feet sometimes.

What is one of the best experiences you had at EvCC?
The simulation lab experiences I had in the nursing program were some of the most fun and education filled things I had ever done. Though they were scary at first, they turned out to be some of my favorite memories from nursing school.
Who helped you succeed, and how?
Vanessa Dupuente, Kristie Williams, Eva Wangia, Candace Whedon and Dena Adkins. The nursing instructors were great but these specific instructors were my favorite. They provided such a safe and fun learning environment and were supportive and encouraging throughout the quarter that they taught.
What advice would you give to new students?
The school has a lot to offer! Check out the clubs that they have, it's a great way to meet people and make friends. I went to some of the Asian student union meetings when I got the chance and helped with a couple of their events, but I wish I knew about them sooner.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
It's never too late to go back to school or make a career change. If that's something that you are interested in then go for it!
