Volunteer Literacy Program (VLP)

What is Volunteer Literacy Program (VLP)?

Volunteer Literacy Program (VLP) at Everett Community College, is staffed by a team of trained and dedicated volunteers, and serves adults learning basic reading, writing, and math skills and students learning English (ELA). Our work is accomplished by matching students with one-on-one or small group basis accompanied by community-based tutors.

  • To support adult learners in our community by offering accessible and flexible education opportunities
  • To provide positive and successful volunteer experiences
  • To partner with other programs within the college, and organizations outside EvCC, to meet our students’ needs
  • To supplement classroom instruction offered in Transitional Studies programs

What Does Volunteer Literacy Program (VLP) do?

  • To recruit, train and place willing volunteers with students
  • To offer drop in or one-on-one tutoring sessions
  • To tutor and support students in basic reading, writing, math, English, and communication skills
  • To offer free, accessible and confidential tutoring sessions

  • Adults learning basic reading, writing, and math skills
  • Students learning English (ELA)
  • General Education Development (GED)

ELA Conversation Cafe on Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 to 3:00pm in Baker 110
All Adult English language learners are welcome!
