Doors 5:30 PM.  Pre-talk 6:00 PM.  Film 6:15 PM.

Japanese-animated adventure about a cyborg policewoman (voice of Mimi Woods) on the heels of a robot criminal. Directed by Mamoru Oshii.
Suggested donation. $1 students. $5 faculty, staff, and community. Or 1 unit non-perishable food donation for the Campus Pantry initiative.
Drinks and snacks on sale by EvCC Japanese Club.  Cash or check only please.

Sumi-e Club's Painting Workshop

Sumi-e club studies & practices Japanese black ink painting called sumi-e. Zen Buddhist monks introduced this art form to Japan in the 14th century. It features an emphasis on brushwork and the spirit of our subjects. Stop by our art sale fundraiser and workshop where attendees can learn to paint cherry blossoms, or bamboo, & take their art home.

Taiko Performance
1:30 to 2:30 PM - Saturday, May 18th, @ Jackson Auditorium

Join OKK Chijinshuu for a fantastic performance of Okinawan folk dance and drumming.  This exciting and enthusiastic group promotes friendship with the goal of handing down their cultural heritage by introducing traditional music, dances, and folk crafts.

 Tea Ceremonies at the Japanese Cultural Resource Center
Everett Community College Japanese Cultural Resource Center has a beautiful tea room on campus which overlooks a Japanese garden. JAMAF 2019 provides the opportunity to experience authentic Japanese tea in an elegant setting.

  • There are two sessions on Saturday 18th starting at 11:00 AM & 2:00 PM.  Space per session is limited to 20 seats.
  • Sessions include a tour of the Japanese garden, a traditional sweet (gluten free + vegan), and a delicious bowl of frothy matcha, special powdered green tea.
  • Tickets are $10.  Limit two per person and must be purchased day of the event.
  • Ticket sales start at 10:30 AM at the information desk in Jackson Center.
  • Cash or check only please.

Yukata Booth
Saturday May 18th, 10 AM to 4 PM, GWH 166/168
Get dressed up in fantastic yukata (summer kimono) and take a selfie!  All ages welcome. 

Yukata Booth is kindly brought to the JAMAF community by guest of honor Chie Lee.  Lee-san is a third-generation Korean, born and raised in Osaka, Japan. She lived in Seattle for six years and now resides in Kakamigahara, Gifu prefecture, Japan.  She is a teacher at the "Spreading Japanese National Clothes Culture Institute Inc."  While giving English tours to visitors, she also does kimono experience at Nakasendou Unumajuku, an old post station in Gifu.

Manga Swap
Saturday May 18th, 10 AM to 4 PM, GWH 166/168

Team Sakura-Con's Manga Swap will be returning to JAMAF 2018!   Dust off your old manga and trade for something new.  Hundreds of books to choose from in English and Japanese.  Manga, anime artbooks, and Japanese light novels can all be traded. We will take foreign languages as well.  Exchange rate: 1 for 1 with some negotiation.  Please note: Manga Swap cannot sell items.  Trades only.

Cosplay Competition
Saturday, May 18th, @ Jackson Auditorium

We love cosplay. You love cosplay.  JAMAF 2019 is pleased to announce its 3rd Cosplay Competition.  Cosplays at all levels and from all fandoms are welcome.  Individuals and groups may apply.  See application instructions for below for more details about procedure and policy.

Application Instructions:

  • Sign-ups will be held on Saturday, May 18th, at the Jackson Center Info-Desk starting at 10:30 AM directly after opening ceremony.
  • There are 20 spots and 5 waitlist spots.First-come, first-serve.
  • Sign-ups close at 2:15 PM or when full.
  • All applicants must meet in the Jackson Center senate room at 2:15 PM. Only contestants will be admitted. No entourages please.
  • No-shows are disqualified at 2:30 PM according to the room clock.No exceptions.
  • At 2:30 PM, if there are no-shows on the main list, we will draw from waitlist spots in order of application.
  • At 2:30 all confirmed contestants will participate in a mandatory group training.  More information about the program, code of conduct, and judgment criteria will be shared at this time. 
  • At 3:00, pre-judging will take place for contestants who have created some or all of their costumes.  We have special prize categories this year to celebrate costume creators.  See the information desk for more details.
  • Confirmed contestants must remain in the Jackson Senate Room.  Final roll call and line-ups will be held at 3:50 PM.  Anyone not present at final call will be disqualified.
  • Fabulous prizes for all winners!

IMPORTANT - Cosplay weapon props not permitted!
The EvCC campus policy on weapons does not permit toys or facsimiles.  As such, cosplay weapon props of all kinds (swords, guns, staffs, brass knuckles, staffs, giant wooden spoons, etc.) are not permitted.  Basically, if it could be mistaken for a weapon, don’t bring it.  If you bring such a prop you will be required to store it in your car or at Cosplay Coat-Check.
