Program Map for Fire Science AAS-T

The Fire Science Program is designed to prepare individuals for a career in Fire Service. Graduates from our program typically move directly into a career in Fire Service, but have the option of continuing their education. Career opportunities include; Firefighting, Fire inspection, Fire investigation, Fire equipment testing and sales, and Fire testing certification. Notes on using this map:

* indicates an elective course that is recommended but not required and could be substituted with another appropriate course. For example, ENGL& 102* on a map means that ENGL& 102* is recommended, but any 5-credit course from the Basic Communication Skills list on the DTA would also be acceptable.
 
indicates a pre-requisite relationship. For example, MATH&141→ MATH&142 on a map indicates that a student must pass MATH& 141 before taking MATH& 142

(F, W, Sp, Su) indicates the quarters in which a course is offered, if not offered every quarter. For example, ART 116 (W) means that ART 116 is only offered during Winter quarters

TS stands for Transitional Studies. Courses taken through the Transitional Studies department do not qualify for financial aid but cost only $25 per quarter. To see if you qualify, contact the Advising Center at advising@everettcc.edu or 425-388-9339.

If your math placement is below MATH& 107, you’ll need to take the following sequence of courses, starting from the level you placed into:

  • TS 60 → TS 70 → MATH/TS 76 → MATH/TS 86

If your English placement is below ENGL& 101, you’ll need to take following sequence of courses, starting from the level you placed into:

  • ENGL/TS/AEP 97 → ENGL/TS/AEP 98

Note: English language learners may need additional courses before ENGL/TS/AEP 97 depending on their placement.

Complete college-level courses. Focus on those that fit in the Fire Sciences Pathway so that if you change to another program, most of the credits you’ve earned already will apply to your new goal.

Complete specific degree requirements and begin preparing for graduation and transfer. If you change to another program in this phase, some credits earned may not apply to your new program.

  • Complete your educational plan so that you know which remaining courses you will be taking and in what quarter(s). Ensure your program advisor approves it and provides you with a copy that you can include when it comes time for you to apply to graduate (to apply for your degree). 
  • Decide how you wish to complete your elective credits. Planning to work in the fire service? Consider taking FIRE 100 Firefighter Academy and EMS 151 Emergency Medical Technician in order to a. complete your elective credits and b. gain the professional certifications that you will need to enter the field upon graduating.
  • Early in the prior quarter, complete applications to both EMS 151 and FIRE 100 for this academic year in order to secure your places in these courses.

 Finishing Your Pathway

Complete all remaining degree/certificate requirements before you graduate. 

Quarter 5: Year 2 - Winter Quarter
Star icon Take EMS 151 - Emergency Medical Technician Training if pursuing EMT certification
Star icon Take PEHW 126 - Weight Training – Level 2 ( 1- or 2-credit version) towards elective credits and prepare for the physical aspect of FIRE 100 Firefighter Academy in a subsequent quarter

Quarter 6: Year 2 - Spring Quarter

Apply for graduation at least one quarter in advance.
