Voices of EvCC - Larry Walker

Larry WalkerLarry is currently the Director of Athletics at EvCC, and has worked at the college for the past 25 years.  He started in 1985 as the men’s basketball coach, became the athletic coordinator, and then the director.

Academics is an important part of the college’s athletics program, and student athletes are encouraged to access services on campus to aid them in their academic success.

Larry feels that it is “almost like a calling” to work with student athletes at the junior college level in order to provide them some direction after high school.  His goal is for players “to be a good person and show respect to others.”  Five of his former students are currently head coaches in area high schools across Snohomish County.

With the construction of the new athletic facility, Larry has found the last year and a half of his career at EvCC to be his most challenging with the athletic program run out of temporary facilities.  However, in this, he is inspired in watching the project progress.  His belief is that “the new gym is like a new beginning”, and will do great things with recruitment for the college in all athletic programs.

Larry reflects on the support he's received from his supervisors and the college's new Athletic Hall of Fame. Listen to that story (1.50). Audio Icon
