Recommended Books for the March 2013 Lean Facilitator Training -
The following list of books will be available in the Library's Employee Reference section:

Lean Office and Service Simplified: The Definitive How-To Guide by Drew Locher; Paperback. This book provides an excellent overview of how Lean should be introduced to an organization. Although it is not written with a focus on higher education, it is easy to make the transition to higher education.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to Lean: Lessons from the Road by Jamie Flinchbaugh; Hardcover. This book will be discussed during the week. It is a roadmap for applying Lean.

The Change Cycle: How People Can Survive and Thrive in Organizational Change; by Ann Salerno and Lillie Brock. Paperback. This book is not Lean-based at all; however, Lean involves change in an organization. This book discusses the phases employees move through when change is implemented. We will discuss facilitation and motivation techniques. Having an understanding of how employees react to change is helpful.

Mapping the Total Value Stream: A Comprehensive Guide for Production and Transactional Processes; by Mark A. Nash; Paperback. Value Stream Mapping will be used in class. This book is a good reference for this visual tool.
