8 Things You Need to Know Now for Winter Quarter

Here are eight things you need to know for the start of winter classes on January 2 at Everett Community College.

1. Get ready for your first day.

Know your student ID number (also called ctcLink ID) and your class schedule. To look up your schedule, log into ctcLink. From your student homepage, click on Manage Classes and then View my Classes. Find out what textbooks you need, and buy or rent them at the EvCC Bookstore. If you're parking on campus, you'll need a parking permit

2. Make sure you have the technology you need.

Log in early to Canvas - EvCC's online learning management system - in case you need to troubleshoot an issue with your account. Check out the Canvas Resource Guide. Your instructors may use Canvas to post course content like a syllabus, important documents, links to articles, and details about how to submit homework, as well as deliver online exams and post your grades.

If you need to borrow a laptop or wifi hotspot, you may be able to borrow one from the EvCC library

3. Attend your first class.

If you have a synchronous online class that meets on certain days and times, log into Canvas at your class time.

If you have an asynchronous online class, log into Canvas on January 2 to get started.

If you have a hybrid or in-person class, check out the campus map and give yourself extra time to get to class the first week. Contact your instructor if you have an emergency. If you don't show up by the start of your second class, you may get dropped from your class, especially if there's a waitlist of students who want to get in.

Speaking of waitlists, if you're on a waitlist on the first day of class, you can email the instructor to ask to be added. You can find the instructor listed in the class schedule and then look up their email in the EvCC directory

4. Know how to access support and resources.

You can get assistance from the Cashiers Office, Financial Aid, Enrollment Services and other student services in person, via phone and by email. You can also video chat with Entry Advising, Canvas Help Desk, Center for Disability Services, and more during virtual office hours. Offices have in-person office hours posted on their webpages

The EvCC Food Pantry is a student-led and organized free service available to EvCC students and employees experiencing food insecurity. Assistance is available by appointment.

The Tutoring Center offers free online academic/tutorial support in many subjects from writing to science to math and more. The Writing Center offers writing assistance, and you can submit your drafts for feedback.

5. Sign up for emergency alerts.

Get college closures information sent to you by text message and personal email by signing up for alerts at EverettCC.edu/Emergency. If EvCC is closing during regular business hours or experiencing an emergency, information will be posted on an opening screen of the EvCC website, sent via text message for subscribers, emailed to students, faculty, and staff EvCC email accounts, and a message will be posted on the college's main phone line at 425-388-9100.

6. If you're on campus, know where to find food.

Buenos Diaz Coffee in the Parks Student Union serves coffee, other beverages, grab-and-go salads and sandwiches. The EvCC Bookstore sells snacks, beverages and grab-and-go items.

There are a number of nearby places that offer food, including Starbucks, Subway, Taco-Book, Umami (poke, sushi burritos, and tea), Sunny Teriyaki, 7-Eleven, and Refined Coffee.

7. Get your questions answered.

Do you have a question about life at EvCC that isn't answered here? We can direct you to someone who can assist you. Text us at 425-382-7533, or reach out on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. We will do our best to answer your questions promptly.
