Federal Student Financial Aid Penalties for Drug Law Violations

For the latest information, go to the federal website. 
Federal law states that a student who has been convicted of an offense under any federal or state law involving the possession or sale of a controlled substance during a period of enrollment for which the student was receiving Federal financial aid shall not be eligible to receive any federal grant, loan, or work assistance during the period beginning on the date of such conviction and ending after the interval specified in the following table.

A student whose eligibility has been suspended based on a conviction for possession or sale of a controlled substance may resume eligibility before the end of the ineligibility period if:

  1. the student satisfactorily completes a drug rehabilitation program that:
    • complies with the criteria prescribed in the federal regulations; and
    • includes two unannounced drug tests;
  2. the student successfully passes two unannounced drug tests conducted by a drug rehabilitation program that complies with the criteria prescribed in the federal regulations; or
  3. the conviction is reversed, set aside, or otherwise rendered nugatory.

Fraud

To protect your identity, if Everett Community College's Financial Aid Office staff suspects that a student or other individual has misreported information or altered documentation to fraudulently obtain federal funds, we may delay the disbursement of federal and other funds. We will report our suspicions and provide all evidence to the Office of Inspector General at 1-800-647-8733.

Code of Conduct for Financial Aid Professionals and Advisory Disclosure

The Office of Financial Aid at Everett Community College adheres to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators Code of Conduct  as required by law.

The Office of Financial Aid discloses that currently no financial aid professional on staff is serving on a lender advisory board.
