Student Story-Kelsey Speed

Kelsey Speed

When Kelsey was 17, she enrolled in the EvCC Cosmetology program. She worked at a local Supercuts as a receptionist while attending school.  During her time attending EvCC Cosmetology program, Kelsey liked the fast pace environment and hands-on training she received. She enjoyed the instructors’ willingness to share their knowledge from over the years.
Kelsey graduated from EvCC Cosmetology in January 2004. She took her state board tests and was a licensed cosmetologist in February 2004. She immediately began working as a stylist at Supercuts.

In May 2012, Kelsey opened her in-home salon. With two children to take care of, running her own salon gave her a flexible schedule.  A couple years later Kelsey made the decision to return to EvCC Cosmetology for the Instructor Training Program. The desire for a change of scenery within the same profession led her to further her education. She wants to share her knowledge and experience. She stated, “It’s a rewarding feeling to teach someone something and have them grasp that concept and have a sense of accomplishment with in themselves.”  Kelsey graduated the Instructor Training Program in 2014.
