Alumni Spotlight - Lucas Mack

After attending the Running Start program during his senior year of high school, Lucas Mack decided EvCC was a logical choice for obtaining his associates degree. "One class in particular stood out," he says. "I got a 4.0 in my public speaking class--I should have known then that my career would involve speaking in front of others." He went on to attend the University of Washington, eventually becoming a broadcast television reporter. Today, Lucas heads 4th Avenue Media, the marketing and communication firm he founded in 2008. "My advice to all college students is to be humble and confident," he says. "No one likes a humble person who's not confident and no one likes a confident person who's not humble. Both take work to make them a reality."

What is your current occupation/career?

I am the CEO and Founder of 4th Avenue Media, a marketing and communication firm helping companies nationwide clearly communicate their value and attract the right customer.

How did you choose EvCC? Was there a selection process involved in your decision making?

I did Running Start my senior year in high school at EvCC, so continuing there to finish my AA was a logical choice.

Do you think your time at EvCC helped you pursue your current career? How?

Prior to starting my company in 2008, I was a broadcast TV reporter, so looking back on my time at EvCC, there are a few classes that stand out, but one in particular, was my public speech class, which I got a 4.0. I should have known then I’d pick a career where speaking in front of others would be part of my job.

What did you do after you left or graduated from EvCC?

I transferred to the University of Washington and graduated there in 2004 with my BA.

What words of advice would you give to current EvCC students?

My advice to all college students is be humble and confident. No one likes a humble person that’s not confident and no one likes a confident person who’s not humble. Both take work to make them a reality.

Any other information you would like to provide?
