"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree" certainly applies to mother and daughter, Traci and Ashley Scully. Both women chose EvCC to begin their nursing careers. "EvCC's nursing program is well known for its ample clinical experiences, high passing rates, and awesome nurses," says Traci. After working from home as a medical transcriptionist for many years, Traci took the leap and completed the nursing program, going on to obtain her bachelor's of science in nursing. She is currently working as a perioperative nurse for a local surgery center. Traci thought so highly of EvCC's program that she encouraged daughter Ashley to do the same. "I truly look up to her--she's a wonderful mom and nurse," says Ashley. Today, Ashley is a registered nurse resident at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett and is thrilled with her career choice.

What is your current occupation/career?

Ashley: I am a Registered Nurse Resident at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett

Traci: I am currently a perioperative registered nurse for a local surgery center.

How did you choose EvCC?

Ashley: My mom and dad have both attended EvCC. I also have quite a few friends who were more than pleased with EvCC.

Traci: After working from home as a medical transcriptionist and a stay-at-home mom for 19 years, I decided to further my education in the medical field by pursuing a degree in nursing. EvCC was an easy choice, as it was just 20 minutes from my home in Lake Stevens and had a reputation of having an excellent nursing program.

Do you think your time at EvCC helped you pursue your current career?

Ashley: Most definitely! After completing EvCC’s nursing program, I feel that I was thoroughly prepared to take on an RN position.

Traci: Absolutely!  I was able to do all of my pre-requisites and then enter and complete EvCC’s nursing program right in my own backyard.

What did you do after you left or graduated from EvCC?

Ashley: I immediately began applying to the local hospitals in the area. A couple months later, I was offered a position!

Traci: After graduating from EvCC’s nursing program in March 2013, I started my career at Swedish Hospital in Edmonds, Washington, where I was able to build upon the solid foundation EvCC’s nursing program and instructors provided me with.  After working as a registered nurse for a couple of years, I obtained my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) through WGU.

Was there anyone during your time at EvCC who acted as a mentor for you?

Ashley: My mom had completed the same program a few years prior to me, so she provided me with a lot of insight and words of encouragement. I truly look up to her. She is a wonderful mom and nurse.

Traci: No one particular person sticks out, but the nursing instructors, as a whole, and fellow nursing students (who become your family for the duration of the two-year program), were very supportive and provided direction during my time at EvCC.

What words of advice would you give to current EvCC students?

Ashley: School can be overwhelming at times, and it may seem like it’s never going to end. It’s important to remember why you started, your goals, and to realize that only you can achieve your goals. No one else is going to do it for you. It will all pay off in the end!

Traci: I believe EvCC and its nursing program provided me with a high-quality education, which was affordable and local. Though EvCC’s nursing program is through a community college, it provides a high quality education, well-known for its ample clinical experiences, high NCLEX passing rates, and production awesome nurses, and has evolved to ensure its current students are BSN-ready – so as to remain competitive with Universities who produce nurses with a Bachelors degree.  I think so highly of EvCC’s nursing program, that I encouraged my daughter, Ashley, to apply, and who is now a June 2018 graduate with a degree in nursing :-)
