Alumni Spotlight - Trent Tingelstad

Trent Tingelstad saw EvCC as an opportunity to not only join an outstanding baseball program, but to also take high-level courses that could transfer to a four-year college. “EvCC’s baseball program definitely helped get to me to where I am today,” he says. “I worked hard to get my degree and move on to a four-year school for baseball as well.” Trent attended the University of Louisiana Monroe for a year on campus and is currently in the eULM online program, working toward a major in business administration. Currently a left-hand hitting outfielder for the AquaSox, Trent has helpful advice for current students: “EvCC is a great place to get your college career started. If you’re not sure what you want to do, the staff at EvCC will guide you in the right direction. EvCC’s courses will lay the foundation to potentially move on to a four-year institution.”

What is your current occupation/career?

I am a professional baseball player in the Seattle Mariners Organization.

How did you choose EvCC?

I chose EvCC because I saw it as an opportunity to get into the baseball program while still being able to take high level courses that could transfer to a four-year program.

Do you think your time at EvCC helped you pursue your current career?

Yes, for sure. For me, the baseball program helped me get to where I am today. I learned valuable lessons and worked hard during my time at EvCC to get my degree and move on to a four-year school for baseball as well. That is where I was picked up by the Seattle Mariners--but it all started at EvCC!

What did you do after leaving EvCC?

I attended the University of Louisiana Monroe for one year on campus and am currently in the eULM online program. I used my Business-DTA to get into a Business Administration major and also work towards minors in finance and management.

Was there anyone during your time at EvCC who acted as a mentor for you?

Levi Lacey and JoJo Howie helped me a lot during my time at EvCC. They both helped me better myself as a player and helped my knowledge on the baseball field to get to where I am now. On the other hand, if I needed any help with off-the-field issues or anything with classes, they would also help steer me in the right direction.

What words of advice would you give to current EvCC students?

EvCC is a great place to get your college career started. If you’re not sure what you want to do, the staff at EvCC will guide you in the right direction so you can take classes you are interested in and help find a direction. They are high-level courses that will help you get a good education and lay the foundation to potentially move on to a four-year institution.
