Alumni Spotlight - James Abbott


From the time he was a teen, James Abbott knew that he loved the culinary arts. He began working in the restaurant business and chose to attend EvCC’s culinary program to further his career in the business. While at the college, he took a position at Arnie’s in Mukilteo, where he worked as sous chef for several years, eventually landing at Buck's American Cafe in Everett. After 17 years as the chef at Buck’s, James and his wife, Anne, took over as owners of the cafe in 2014, leaving no doubt that the cafe is in good hands.

James has advice for other students with similar aspirations: “Be humble and ask questions; look for where your current learning can be applied to your whole life and career,” he says. “All of life is an adventure, so use your time at EvCC to learn and experience as much as you can—then get out there and do it!”
