What did you study at EvCC's Corporate & Continuing Education Center (CCEC)?
I completed the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certificate program.

Why did you choose CCEC?
The Corporate and Continuing Education Center (CCEC) was very close to my workplace. Its focus on adult, professional learners gave me the flexibility I needed to maintain a good work-life balance. In addition, their Rapid Track option for the Lean Six Sigma program was very affordable and allowed me to complete the course as soon as possible. The Lean Six Sigma program seemed to be the right choice to level up my career as a process engineer. Having freshly graduated college, I felt confident in my understanding of the chemistry and math behind most processes. I felt that I needed direct experience and a succinct framework through which I could utilize my skills – enter Lean Six Sigma.

Who helped you succeed at CCEC?
I would like to thank my Lean Six Sigma instructors and fellow students for helping me both personally and professionally. I found the enthusiasm of the teachers to be contagious, and I appreciated every teacher’s effort to make the material relatable and applicable for every student. I enjoyed learning from the other students’ diverse backgrounds and experiences, and I’ve made great friends and mentors that I could not have found anywhere else.

Suyenne JabidoHow have the skills you have learned at CCEC benefited you?
The skills I learned at CCEC allowed me to make great strides in an area I was introduced to through Lean Six Sigma – supply chain. In my previous role as a research associate, I took process ownership of supply chain and by developing standard work procedures and using 5S principles, I increased SKU production accuracy and decreased cycle time by more than 50 percent.

In addition, my Lean Six Sigma training enables me to see everything as a process, and it helps me spot and correct inefficiencies all around me. The project management courses included in the Lean Six Sigma curriculum helped me understand how to carry out my proposed changes by teaching me how to become an effective leader who understands how to bring out the best in people.

My Lean Six Sigma training also helped me pivot my career into a direction that I wanted to go in. My current employer was very impressed that I had this training during the interviewing process. As a result, I’m looking forward to applying my skills in bigger projects and making a huge positive impact.

What advice do you have for others who may be considering taking classes at CCEC?
I advise others to keep an open mind and to invest themselves fully in their education. The programs at CCEC can expose you to different fields you may not have been exposed to otherwise. You may find ideas that speak strongly to your calling, or you may find a new calling altogether.
