EvCC Instructor Bill Reed Wins CWU Award

EVERETT, WA – Central Washington University’s College of Business has selected EvCC accounting instructor Bill Reed for its “Advancing the Dream” award for outstanding community college instructors.

Reed, of Mill Creek, was honored May 2 at Central Washington University’s College of Business honors banquet.

Reed, who has taught at EvCC since Fall 2002, worked in the business world for 25 years before becoming a teacher.

"I absolutely love helping students learn, grow and feel confident in their knowledge and abilities," he said. "This is a great gig. I get to do what I love, to make a positive difference, in an inclusive environment, and work with a fine group of professionals."

He decided to make a career change in 1998 after working in the private sector in a variety of positions, including corporate controller for a medium-sized corporation.

In addition to teaching, Reed has volunteered in various roles for 20 years, and currently serves as the first vice president and political action chair for the Snohomish County Branch of the NAACP.

Reed is the founder and co-chair of the Snohomish County Students of Color Career Conference, which brings more than 600 middle and high school students to EvCC to explore education and career options. He also established the Students of Color Scholarship Fund, which recently awarded seven scholarships to local high school students.

In addition to teaching, he runs his own business, Reed Consulting, Inc., that provides financial and management accounting services, as well as financial literacy education.
