Boeing Donates 747 Engine to EvCC's
Aviation Maintenance Technician School

EVERETT, Wash. – The Boeing Company is donating a 747 jet engine to Everett Community College's Aviation Maintenance Technician School to help train future aviation mechanics.

Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire will join Scott Carson, CEO and president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes to present the donation to Everett Community College at 3 p.m. July 31 at EvCC's Aviation Maintenance Technician School at Paine Field.

"We are very grateful for Boeing's donation," said EvCC President David Beyer. "Hands-on experience training with the technology that the aerospace industry is using to manufacture and maintain airplanes will better prepare our students for the workforce."

The Pratt & Whitney JT-9D engine, from a 747 freighter, is the foundation of all engines for modern wide-body jets.

"We are pleased to partner with Everett Community College to provide valuable, hands-on experience for the next generation of workers," said Carson. "A well-trained workforce is vital for our future as we continue to face intense competition from around the world."

EvCC's Aviation Maintenance Technician School opened 40 years ago. More than 70 students are enrolled in the program. They learn the background knowledge and practical shop experience to earn an associate's degree, certificate in aviation maintenance technology, or airframe and powerplant license. The 2,040 hour, eight-quarter program is FAA certified.  Graduates work in Snohomish County and around the world.
