EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Community College’s second student housing building now has a name – Cedar Hall.

The name was suggested by EvCC student Jenna Mohr and selected by a committee of EvCC students and staff. Mohr will receive $250 from the developer, Teutsch Partners, for suggesting the winning name.

“The cedar tree is the most important plant to the northwest native tribes. They used it as clothing, homes, tools and transportation. It also holds a valuable cultural meaning through traditions of the people. The native people of this region are very important and should be honored on campus,” Mohr wrote.

Cedar Hall, located at 931 Trojan Way (formerly 931 Broadway), includes 132 beds in studio, 3-bedroom and 4-bedroom apartments. The 3-bed and 4-bed apartments have private bedrooms with shared living rooms and full kitchens in each unit. Rent includes all utilities, wireless internet and furniture.

The building is owned by Teutsch Partners and will be managed by EvCC. Cedar Hall is being built on the site of the former Lona Vista apartments, which were demolished to make way for the new building.

Cedar Hall is the second student housing building run by EvCC. The first, Mountain View, opened in Fall 2016 and includes 120 private rooms.

EvCC is accepting applications now for Mountain View for winter and spring quarters. The college will begin taking applications for Cedar Hall on Jan. 2.
Applicants must be EvCC students (applied and accepted). To apply, go to EverettCC.edu/Housing.
