EvCC Foundation breakfast raises $105,000 to support student scholarships, college programs

EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Community College Foundation’s breakfast on Tuesday raised $105,000 to support student scholarships and college programs.
More than 250 people attended the annual benefit.
The event featured student speaker Elishah Webb, who spoke about the impact that receiving a scholarship had on his college experience, Associated Student Body President Narjis Alshatee and EvCC President Chemene Crawford.
“EvCC was a launchpad for me,” said Webb. “My path toward potential ground-breaking endeavors in aerospace engineering is…fueled by generosity.”

The breakfast is part of the EvCC Foundation’s efforts to increase the number of student scholarships, emergency funding and grants. The Foundation is also working to seek out equipment and support to ensure students have the technology they need in the classroom.
During the 2022-23 academic year, the Foundation awarded 238 scholarships for a total of $475,657 and provided $205,102 to support college programs, $127,625 in emergency funding, and $113,355 for athletics support, all funded in part by donations at the 2023 benefit breakfast.
“The need for emergency funding continues to grow rapidly,” said Kristen McConaha, who took over as Executive Director of the EvCC Foundation in January after the retirement of John Olson. “We use these donations for any emergent, one-time need like tires or housing vouchers that, if not funded, could derail a student's education.”

The premier sponsors for the breakfast were Boeing, BECU and Gesa Credit Union. Major sponsors included Mithun, Mortenson, Northwest Plus Credit Union, Tulalip Resort Casino, Washington State University Everett and Washington Trust Bank.
