Writing Center

NEW! We have moved to the Cascade Learning Resource Center.

Come see us in our new location in Cascade 103. We have loads of space to work and easy parking. You'll love the new Writing Center.

Schedule In-person or Online Writing Appointments with Starfish

Book an Appointment: You can schedule a session either to work in-person or over Zoom. Students may have one tutoring session per day and up to four sessions per week. All Zoom tutoring sessions must be scheduled through Starfish. In-person sessions can be scheduled or students may drop into the Writing Center without an appointment.

WRITTEN FEEDBACK: Monday through Thursday, we also offer asynchronous tutoring through our Canvas page.  Students may submit their work for written feedback.  This is a helpful option for students who aren’t available during our regular hours or don’t have strong internet access.  On the weekends, the Writing Center directs students to e-Tutoring for help.

ON CAMPUS: We're in Cascade Learning Resource Center 103. Students can drop in and work one-on-one with a tutor.

ZOOM: When you schedule your appointment through Starfish, you'll get a link for your Zoom session.

Our Philosophy

The Writing Center provides peer support for student writers on all types of writing projects in any subject. Students also use the Writing Center for personal writing, application essays, resumes and cover letters. The Writing Center does not proofread or correct papers; writing assistants work collaboratively with writers offering feedback and providing ideas and methods for editing and polishing their work. Our goal is to provide writers with transferable skills that will help them on future writing projects. We also provide students with additional resources such as dictionaries and grammar handbooks, textbooks, handouts, exercises, and instructional software for composing, editing, punctuation, and grammar basics.

Writing Center Program Specific Outcomes

The Writing Center supports the college-wide Core Learning Outcomes, in addition to promoting the following program-specific outcomes:

  • The Writing Center fosters the confidence of student writers by clarifying and promoting techniques for effective writing.
  • The Writing Center enhances the academic experience of peer tutors by encouraging academic development activities and self-reflection.

E-Tutoring

EvCC offers online assistance through the Western eTutoring Consortium. You can submit a draft of your paper for feedback, ask specific questions, and receive a response usually within 24 to 48 hours. To submit your writing for feedback, go online to eTutoring external link icon and select "Western eTutoring Consortium" then choose "Everett Community College."  From there, follow the directions for logging in to eTutoring.
