Program Map for High School Plus (HS+)

This program is intended for students ages 18 and older who did not complete their high school diploma requirements and are not interested in obtaining a GED. (Running Start and International students are not eligible for HS+.  Students between 18 – 20 will be required to complete all non-class state requirements, such as the Smarter Balance test.), This is a competency-based program, so students who didn’t complete a particular subject in high school will have to show competency in that particular subject.   This can be done in two different ways: complete a specific level course with a C or higher or take our prior learning experience class to show proof of competency for a particular subject based on life, work, or testing experience.

Students who complete this program will be eligible for entry-level careers.  They will also be eligible to continue their education through another pathway at Everett Community College (EvCC) or other institution.  For more information, contact a faculty program advisor.  Faculty advisors for High School Plus students are listed below.

If you have been assigned an advisor please work with them, otherwise you can choose any of the advisors below.

Precollege to College English and Math Checklist

Notes on using this map:

* indicates an elective course that is recommended but not required and could be substituted with another appropriate course. For example, ENGL& 102* on a map means that ENGL& 102* is recommended, but any 5-credit course from the Basic Communication Skills list on the DTA would also be acceptable.

indicates a pre-requisite relationship. For example, MATH&141→ MATH&142 on a map indicates that a student must pass MATH& 141 before taking MATH& 142

(F, W, Sp, Su) indicates the quarters in which a course is offered, if not offered every quarter. For example, ART 116 (W) means that ART 116 is only offered during Winter quarters

TS stands for Transitional Studies. Courses taken through the Transitional Studies department do not qualify for financial aid but cost only $25 per quarter. To see if you qualify, contact the Advising Center at advising@everettcc.edu or 425-388-9339.

& as part of a course number (e.g. ACCT& 202) indicates that the course is part of the Common Course Numbering System

D as part of a course number (e.g. ENGL& 102D) indicates that the course fulfills the Diversity Course requirement for the AAS-DTA degree

 Breaking Ground on Your Pathway

This phase will walk you through beginning your program and give you some key information in order to be successful.

Apply to EvCC in order to obtain a student identification (SID).
If applicable, obtain your official high school transcript from the last high school you attended.  Once you have that transcript, make an appointment to meet with an HSC advisor at evcchsc.youcanbook.me

Talk bubble icon  Attend the meeting with your HS+ advisor.  This meeting will be approximately 30 minutes long.  At that meeting, the following things will happen:

  • An evaluation of your high school transcript to determine which subjects you have already completed and which you still need.
  • Completion of  a writing and math assessment to determine your English and math level.
  • Creation of an initial plan with your advisor to determine your first classes needed to complete your diploma.
  • Education on how to read the online schedule, register for your classes each quarter and when to come in to meet with your advisor again.

Star icon Prepare for college-level math and English

Your English and math competency courses may require additional classes before you are eligible for them:

  • TS 098 and TS 095 prerequisite: Completion of TS 097 with a C or higher or placement into TS 098
  • TS 070 prerequisite: Completion of TS 060 with a C or higher or placement into TS 070.
  • TS 086 prerequisite: Completion of TS 076 with a C or higher or placement into TS 086.
  • TS 081 prerequisite: Completion of TS 076 with a C or higher or placement into TS 086.

Talk bubble iconBefore registering each quarter, check your Degree Planner to see what classes you should take to stay on track.  See your faculty program advisor with any questions you have.
