Voices of EvCC - Karena Hooks

Karena Hooks Karena Hooks is a former student at Everett Community College and currently works as the Coordinator of Outreach in Enrollment Services.

Karena first came to the campus seventeen years ago through a program at Everett High School.  When she first arrived, she did not see herself as someone who belonged at college.  However, because of the experiences she had with the people who work at Everett and their commitment to instilling hope in students to fulfill their dreams, she began to imagine herself as a college student.  Karena eventually earned a transfer degree at Everett Community College, finished her BA at New York University, and then came back to Washington to do her Master’s degree.

In her role now as coordinator of outreach, she talks to students all the time about the opportunities that college affords to them.  Karena shares one of her favorite memories of being here at Everett as well as how she motivated herself to continue her studies even in the face of difficulties here.
