Halloween Clubfest & Costume Contest

Monday, October 31st, 2022
12:00 - 3:00 PM
Jackson Center
Costume Contest at 1PM

 “I smell... Hocus Pocus!”

Brooms ready, Trojans! This Halloween, join us as we stir the cauldron and explore the world of Hocus Pocus! I smell people sneaking around in the search for the best costume and checking out EvCC’s many clubs and getting ready for our annual Halloween Club Fest. The most frightening day of the year is going to take place in Jackson Center on Monday, October 31st, 2022 from 12:00 - 3:00 PM. Join the fun and get some goodies and learn how to get involved on campus while checking out the tables hosted by your EvCC clubs while grooving to the beat of the LIVE DJ and enjoy making a halloween craft.

The world of Hocus Pocus becomes more frightening when we start our annual costume contest at 1 PM. EvCC Students, be dressed to impress and compete for some awesome prizes in our Halloween Costume Contest! Choose the category of your choice to win one of three prizes for the best witch/wizard costume, funniest costume and the scariest costume. The winners of each category will get a $50 VISA gift card! Every contestant will get a goodie bag just for participating.

This year we are also bringing an altruistic spirit to Halloween! The students who donates 5 non perishable items to the Food Pantry will get entered into a drawing to receive FREE MOVIE TICKETS! The club who donates the most food to the Food Pantry will receive $50 added to their club budget!

Spell casted, Trojans! See you on the other side...

Adam Grabowski #SayItAnyway

February 17
2:00pm
to
3:00pm

Come and have a laugh, meet new people, and engage in an important conversation about mental health.

Suicide, self-harm, depression, anxiety, and shame are becoming increasingly prevalent in today's world. The rapid growth of social media is perpetuating the idea that we must constantly appear to be perfect and happy in order to achieve likes, followers, and personal self-worth. There is more pressure than ever to edit, modify, manipulate, and create an image or story of ourselves that will appeal to others. We can help eliminate this fear by exposing and discussing the human condition. When we speak openly and begin to accept ourselves as human beings, we can take positive steps forward.

One person who can help facilitate this conversation is Adam Grabowski. He has spoken at over 600 colleges, been named as college comic of the year multiple times, and even appeared on America's Got Talent in 2016. In addition to being a comedian, Adam now speaks about his depression and anxiety, introducing the #SayItAnyway Campaign through which he empowers students to talk about their own experiences and mental health. Adam's message about finding your voice and understanding you're not alone in how you think and feel leaves a much greater impact because it's a part of a comedy show.

We hope you can join us at 2pm in the Jackson Center on Thursday, February 17th!
Tickets are FREE - Pick yours up in Student LIFE, PSU 209 or at the Door!

For more information on this event, please contact Julianna Litovchenko, Trojan Activity Board Coordinator, at jlitovchenko@everettcc.ed or Student LIFE Advisor, Lindsay Hudson, at lhudson@everettcc.edu or (425) 388-9508.

student relaxing and painting

Finals week is around the corner and it is easy to lose sight of the rainbow at the end of the storm.  It's important to take breaks and destress in order to have a fresh mind before diving into the fray of studying! What better way to de-stress than painting! Painting can soothe the soul and nothing is more satisfying than seeing an idea come to life at the end of the creative process.

So come join us as the Trojan Activities Board (TAB) presents our first de-stress event of the year, Breaks & Brushes! TAB is planning to host a variety of events throughout the year, where students can learn, make new friends and have fun! Breaks & Brushes is no exception!

Come grab a canvas and a brush and let's see what you can create! TAB will provide FREE painting supplies such as acrylic paints, canvases, paint brushes, mini easels, and transfer paper for tracing! FREE snacks and drinks will also be provided at the event!

The event will be hosted in the Parks Student Union cafeteria on Wednesday, November 30th from 12 to 3 pm. So bring a friend or two, and relax with us by making some fantastic paintings!

Cafecito con Pan

October 5
10:00am
to
1:00pm

Cafecito con Pan is an event to honor the influence, history, and culture that has been passed down from past generations coming from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central, and South America. Part of the first generation experience is having to navigate college! Sometimes it can feel like we are a baby learning how to swim for the first time. While also keeping in mind the opportunities our elders didn’t have, which can be alot for us to carry. It can make us feel likethere is more pressure to succeed and can impact our mental health.

In this event we hope to unite all students in a safe and open space where everyone can sit down, have conversations with other students, share experiences and enjoy a shared tradition of having a piece of pan dulce (sweet bread) with a warm beverage! Cafecito con Pan is so simple yet so impactful in a way where all students can connect and talk about their experiences with each other, give tips, resources, and connect with people who may have the same shared
experiences!

Besides cafe and pan there will also be music, and traditional games such as Loteria! You can compare loteria to bingo! This event is for Everyone! So We hope you can join us from 10:00am to 1:00pm in the PSU cafe on Wednesday, October 5th!

Come and enjoy some pan dulce, meet new people, play games, and enjoy great music!

For more information on this event, please contact Elsa Sanchez, Trojan Activities Board Coordinator, esanchez@everettcc.edu ,or Student LIFE Advisor, Lindsay Hudson, at lhudson@everettcc.edu or (425) 388-9508.

If you are a person with a disability and needs accommodation in connection with this event, contact the Center for Disability Services at least 5 days in advance at 425-388-9272 or cds@everettcc.edu.

First Generation College Celebration-TRIO Open House

November 8
1:00pm

Join us for a walk-through Open House to celebrate First Generation College Students in TRIO and at EVCC from 1-3 p.m.  Activities planned from a photo booth to intention bracelets hosted by the TRIO staff and Trojan Activities Board!

The First-Gen celebration honors the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which emerged out of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty. Much like other hallmark legislation of that era, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, HEA was intended to help level a playing field that for too long had been weighed against Americans from minority and low-income backgrounds.

In addition to creating federal grants and loan programs to help students finance their educations, the legislation made key investments in institutions of higher education. Additionally, HEA ushered in programs, particularly the Federal TRiO programs, necessary for postsecondary access, retention, and completion for low-income, potential first-generation college graduates.

    SNO Blood Drive

    October 12
    9:00am
    to
    2:00pm

Mark your calendars! The Student Nursing Organization (SNO) has teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a Blood Drive on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 from 9AM-2PM right here at the EvCC Henry M. Jackson Conference Center. Each person who donates will be receiving a $5 gift card to a merchant of choice.

    Online: RedCrossBlood.org
    Enter: SNOECC

    Call: 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767)

Did you know that the American Red Cross supplies 40% of the nations blood supply? The pandemic has caused the most severe blood shortage in over a decade, and now more than ever donations are needed. Prior to the pandemic students made up 25% of all donations in 2019, but now make up just 10% due to campus closures across the nation.

Donated blood impacts patients all across the US including burn victims, trauma patients, the chronically ill, and those fighting cancer. We encourage everyone willing and able to join us in donating blood and give the gift of life.

SNO provides networking, activities, volunteer opportunities, and community outreach for the nursing students of Everett Community College. We also welcome students who are interested in nursing and want to learn more about the nursing program.

Cleaning Up & Restoring the Snohomish River w/ Doug Ewing

    October 12
    1:30pm

Students for Environmental Action (SEA) Club is pleased to invite you for a talk on “River Health”!

Get inspiration to make environmental impacts in YOUR OWN WAY this Wednesday, at 1:30pm in Monte Cristo Hall, Room 111 at Cleaning Up & Restoring the Snohomish River w/ Doug Ewing. Doug has been featured on KOMO News and the Everett Herald for his work.

Doug Ewing, an environmental activist and hero, will be speaking about his efforts to clean up the Snohomish River near where he lives. The main areas of concern with respect to local rivers center on reducing input of garbage, removing existing garbage, ending the use of lead in the sports of fishing and hunting, and making a true assessment of the impact to riparian health from motorized watercraft.

The Students for Environmental Action Club actively works to promote environmental awareness and take action to address climate change.

    Plant Swap

    April 19
    10:00am

The EvCC Plant Swap is back!

On Tuesday, April 19th, you can root yourself in the Whitehorse Critique space when the Swap buds out from 10 AM to 1 PM and boldly avail yourself of free greenery.

Cue your opportunity to help out with donations of plant life. (Support your local Plant Swap!)

The Swap is going down on bended knee to say "puh-leeze get down and dirty"  in order to find cool things in your garden to share with the other Trojan Nation swappers.

The Swap's usual plant sources are truncated (which smarts, by the way) so the Trojan Nation is calling on itself to bring in more planty-kinda-stuff to give away this year.

To entice you to think of potting up, we have a special inducement:

Donate swap material (plants, seeds, bulbs, risomes, etc) and  you will qualify for a half hour head start to get the first  pick of the available plants the day of the Swap.\ AND be entered in a chance to win a cool plant swap prize!
Email sustainability@everettcc.edu about your donation so you can be added to the list of "early access swappers".

    SNO Blood Drive

    February 9
    9:00am
    to
    2:00pm

The Student Nursing Organization (SNO) has teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a Blood Drive on February 9, 2022 from 9am-2pm right here at the EvCC Henry M. Jackson Conference Center.

    Make an Appointment to Donate

Write sympathetically about all your characters. If you have a villain, make sure the villain has some positive quality. Anton Chekhov called the scene revealing the good in the villain the “petting-the-dog moment”. You’ve seen this principle at work in James Bond movies, in which the villain often has a sympathetic bond with an animal.
