Student Spotlight - Emily Hammer

EvCC student Emily Hammer.

What did you study at EvCC?

I received my certificate in human resources management through EvCC's Corporate & Continuing Education Center (CCEC).

Why did you choose EvCC's Corporate & Continuing Education Center?

I chose CCEC because the programs, class times, and different class locations offered fit into my work schedule and were attainable. I went to Everett Community College as a Running Start student in high school, so I already knew EvCC is a great place to receive education.

Who helped you succeed at CCEC? What did that person do to help you?

The instructors in the human resources management program at CCEC are great at teaching every day challenges they have learned in the workforce throughout their careers. Sharon Lewis was an instructor that stood out the most for me. She has many years of HR knowledge and experience, is very personable and always encourages the whole class to participate. I am very much a hands-on learner, so it was nice to interact with my classmates and learn from one another.

What advice do you have for new students?

My advice to new students is to take advantage of these programs that CCEC has to offer, even if you have a full-time career. The days may seem long, but it is worth it once you complete the program and know that you are ready to take on a new challenge.

What do you plan to do next?

My plan is to gain as much HR experience needed in order to take the Society for Human Resources Management - Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) exam, hopefully by the end of next year. Human resources is constantly changing, which is why I look forward to making it my long-term career.
