CTE Dual Credit FAQs

Questions about program eligibility

Who can participate in the CTE Dual Credit Program?

All high school students (9th-12th grade) who are currently taking an EvCC CTE Dual Credit eligible class at their high school or tech skills center may earn college credit through EvCC. Each high school has a list of what classes are eligible and students should check with their teacher or counselor to confirm their class eligibility.

Do I need to apply to EvCC to earn college credit through CTE Dual Credit?

Yes, if you do not have an existing EvCC student account and ctcLink student ID number, you will need to apply. Visit our Application and Registration Information page for steps on how to apply to EvCC. If you already have an EvCC student account in ctcLink, you will not need to re-apply.

Can I participate in CTE Dual Credit and other dual credit programs?

Yes! You can participate in more than one dual credit program while you are in high school. For more information on our programs, visit our High School Dual Credit Programs page.

Questions about registration and deadlines

How do I enroll for the EvCC CTE Dual Credit program?

Students seeking college credit through the EvCC CTE Dual Credit program will need to complete the application, registration, credit request, and payment steps outlined on the Application and Registration Information page.

How do I request my CTE Dual Credit credits?

Starting in 2022-2023 | After registering for your class(es) in SERS AND applying to EvCC or obtaining your EvCC ctcLink student ID number, you will need to submit the EvCC CTE Dual Credit Request Form by the deadline. Failure to submit the form and make payment will result in not being able to earn college credit for your CTE Dual Credit classes.

All students will need to follow the enrollment process, submit the request form, and pay the administrative fee in order to transcribe the college credit on the EvCC official transcript.

Questions about student accounts and ID numbers

How do I get my SERS identification (ID) number?

Once you create a profile account in the CTE Dual Credit SERS system, you will receive a student identification number beginning with a TP in the format of TP#-##-###. From the home page, click on View/Edit Profile to see your username and SERS ID.

I forgot my SERS login information (username or password). How do I recover it?

You can click on the “I forgot my username” and “I forgot my password” on the SERS Student Sign-In page to get your login information. If this is unsuccessful, college staff can reset your student account via email.

How do I get my ctcLink student identification (ID) number?

To obtain a ctcLink student ID number, you will need to apply to the college. If you already have an existing EvCC student account and student ID number because you participated in the EvCC College in the High School or Running Start program, you do not need to apply to the college.

If you have a ctcLink student ID number because you take classes at another community college and have never applied to EvCC or participated in an EvCC dual credit program, you must apply to the College.

What is SERS?

The Statewide Enrollment and Reporting System (SERS) is an online tool for students, high school teachers, and college staff. In this system, you will be able to register for CTE classes, view grades, and track your registration history.

Why do I have to use SERS and ctcLink for the CTE Dual Credit program?

SERS and ctcLink, which is the student record and information system for WA state community and technical colleges, do not speak to each other. In SERS, students have to register for their classes, and high school teachers enter student grades. College staff uses the class information in SERS to award college credit on student transcripts, which students access in ctcLink.

Questions about quarters, credits, and grades

Which high school classes are eligible for CTE Dual Credit?

A class is CTE Dual Credit eligible if the high school has partnered with EvCC and the teacher and class curriculum have met the program standards. CTE Dual Credit classes offered vary by high school and tech skills center.

How many credits are CTE Dual Credit classes worth?

Credits can range between 2 to 12 college credits per class.

How are grades determined for CTE Dual Credit classes?

The final college grades earned follow EvCC’s grading practices and policies, which include the grading scale and grade options. This means that grades awarded for college credit can be different from the grade the student is awarded by the high school.

Do I need to earn a minimum grade in order to earn college credit?

You need to earn at least a “C” grade in order to earn college credit through the program. If you earn below a “C” grade, you will not earn college credit or have the class transcribed on your EvCC college transcript.

Can I earn CTE Dual Credit from classes I previously took?

Starting in the 2022-2023 academic year, CTE Dual Credit can only be earned during the same academic year you take the high school class(es).

If you signed up for CTE classes in the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years have a 3-year window to request the college credit (i.e., submitting a transcription request form and paying the $50 fee). For 2020-2021, the deadline is June 30, 2024. For 2021-2022, the deadline is June 30, 2025.

How many college credits can I earn through CTE Dual Credit?

There is no limit to the amount of college credit you can earn through the program. However, attempting and earning college credit through a dual credit can impact your financial aid eligibility.

Is it possible to remove credit earned through the program from my transcript?

Once a grade is awarded, you will have an official transcript at EvCC and all student policies for transcription apply. Your grades and classes are part of your permanent record and cannot be removed.

Questions about costs, financial assistance, and payments

What are the costs of the program?

The EvCC CTE Dual Credit program charges a $50 administrative annual nonrefundable fee per student. Tuition is not charged.

How is a student charged the fee?

The $50 fee is charged to your ctcLink account after you submit the transcription request form. Students are not charged if they register for a class in SERS.

How do I pay the fee?

There are various payment options available for you and your family through our Cashiers Office. You can pay online with a credit card in ctcLink, set up a tuition payment plan, pay by phone with a card, or pay via check or money order. To view your outstanding balance, review the Tuition, Fees, Account Balance guide.

Is there any financial assistance?

CTE Dual Credit students are not eligible for financial aid because they have yet to graduate from high school or obtain a GED. This is a requirement for federal (FAFSA) and state (WASFA) financial aid. Additionally, they are not eligible for the EvCC Emergency Book Loan overseen by WorkForce Funding.

High schools may also have funds to help students pay for the CTE Dual Credit administrative fee for students. Students will need to check with their teacher or high school counselor to see if funds are available.

Does EvCC offer a fee waiver for students?

An EvCC CTE Dual Credit Fee Waiver is available to eligible students. The fee waiver covers the annual $50 administrative fee. To be eligible, you need to meet all of the following criteria.

  • Currently attend a high school in the Everett Community College (EvCC) service district (Arlington, Darrington, Everett, Granite Falls, Lakewood, Lake Stevens, Marysville, Monroe, Mukilteo, Snohomish, Stanwood, or Sultan).
  • Fee not already covered by a school district or high school.
  • Approved free-or-reduced-price lunches (FRPL) for the current school year, and provide a school district FRPL verification letter.

Our fee waiver funds are limited and priority is given to students in the EvCC service area whose school district or high school is not covering the fee for all of its students. This waiver does not affect any other dual credit program that you may be enrolled in at EvCC.

Students are required to submit documentation the CTE Dual Credit Fee Waiver Request Form  to the CTE Dual Credit program by the deadline. The form and documentation need to be emailed to cte@everettcc.edu.
