eLearning Course Formats and Fees

Course formats and fees

Many courses offered at EvCC use online tools and platforms to enhance learning, improve the overall course experience, and to provide students with opportunities to gain new technology skills. These courses fall into three categories: web enhanced, hybrid, and online.

All three course formats incur a per-credit fee that covers annual licensing fees for the college's learning technologies and other costs associated with providing support to students and faculty. The eLearning course fee for the 2020-20201 academic year is $3.00 per credit. Students may also be charged a separate technology fee, which is not determined by the eLearning Department.

Online courses

Online courses replace all face-to-face time with online instruction. All or nearly all course activities and interactions between students and instructors are performed online. Most online courses at EvCC use Canvas and should be available to students on the first scheduled day of classes each quarter. If you are enrolled in an online course, you should plan to log in on the first day to read the syllabus and check course requirements. Contact your instructor if you have questions about course expectations.

EvCC's online courses are not self-paced. All of our online courses follow a weekly schedule and the college's quarterly calendar; there are regular deadlines for completing assignments, taking tests, and participating in online activities such as discussions or virtual labs. While many online courses provide greater flexibility for students, some may still require occasional attendance on campus at scheduled times (such as for proctored exams). Some online courses may also require students to log in and participate in course activities at regularly scheduled times.

Hybrid courses

Hybrid courses replace a portion of face-to-face time with online instruction. The remaining portion of the course takes place on campus, usually at least once each week. The official class schedule will indicate the times and locations of on-campus class sessions.

Hybrid courses at EvCC often use Canvas to provide access to online lectures, readings, exams or assignments, individual or group projects, discussions, or virtual labs and simulations. Participation in these online components is required and is not self-paced; they typically follow an established schedule provided in the course syllabus or communicated to students by the instructor. If you are enrolled in a hybrid class and have questions about online requirements, you should contact your instructor.

Web Enhanced courses

Web Enhanced courses are taught in a face-to-face format but require the use of web-based tools, platforms, or services. No class time is directly replaced with online instruction. Instead, online materials and tools are used to supplement face-to-face instruction. These may include online homework exercises, virtual labs or simulations, discussions, podcasts, or video lectures. Web enhanced courses at EvCC often use Canvas for communication, assignments, and other course activities, but some instructors may choose to use other platforms as well. If you are enrolled in a web enhanced class and have questions about expectations or requirements, you should contact your instructor.
