Interested in a great elective for your general 2-year degree? Or would you like to explore a broad and exciting career area that includes everything from legal, courts, local police and the state patrol, fish and wildlife, natural resources, and liquor and cannabis regulation, and national security. This course is a prerequisite for most of the other courses in the Criminal Justice program or can satisfy an A-List Elective in the general AAS-DTA degree.

CJ& 110 Intro to Criminal Law, 5 Credits (Spring)

Provides an understanding of US legal history; philosophy of law; legal definitions; constitutional issues; criminal analysis; case reviews and an overview of federal and state criminal laws and juvenile justice. This course is a Core Requirement in the Criminal Justice program or can satisfy an A-List Elective in the general AAS-DTA degree.

CJ& 112 Criminology (Winter and Spring)

Explores the nature and extent of crime and delinquency, examines criminological theories of causes and solutions, and analyzes law and the criminal justice system. This course is a Core Requirement in the Criminal Justice program or can satisfy a Social Sciences requirement or an A-List Elective in the general AAS-DTA degree.

CJ CJ 115 Inequities in Criminal Justice, 5 Credits (Winter)

Hybrid, Instructor: Myron Travis

Examines crime and the criminal justice system in the administering of sentences by the court; issues with race, gender, and policing; issues regarding re-entry, disenfranchisement, and recidivism; remedies and solutions. This course is a Core Requirement in the Criminal Justice program or can satisfy a Social Sciences requirement or a B-List Elective in thegeneral AAS-DTA degree.

CJ& 240 Intro to Forensic Sciences, 5 Credits (Winter)

Online, Instructor: Tiffani Peckham

Survey of the forensic sciences and their application in criminal investigation, adjudications, convictions, and exonerations. This course is a Core Requirement in the Criminal Justice program or can satisfy a Social Sciences requirement or an A-List Elective in the general AAS-DTA degree.

CJ 243 Ethical Dilemmas in Criminal Justice, 5 Credits (Spring)

Online, Instructor: Michael McFadden

Exploration of legal, moral, and social implications of ethical dilemmas in criminal justice and dilemmas they present to criminal justice practitioners. This course is a requirement in the Criminal Justice program or can satisfy a Social Sciences requirement or a B-List Elective in the general AAS-DTA degree.
