Running Start Benefits, Resources, and Forms

You can find Running Start resources and up-to-date forms on this page. As a Running Start student, you have resources and services available to you, including Advising. Please check out the information below to familiarize yourself with the processes and forms.

Benefits of Running Start

  • Advancing Educational Goals - You can accelerate in your postsecondary studies by experiencing and earning college credit at your high school.
  • Academic Rigor - College credit is automatically awarded based on the final grade for the college course. Completion of rigorous coursework and earning college credit may make a student’s university or college application stronger.
  • College Credit - College credits can help satisfy general education requirements at community college colleges and universities. Credit earned may be transferable to all public community colleges, public universities, and most private institutions in Washington state. Students should always contact prospective colleges and universities to understand if and how community college credit will transfer.
  • Tuition Savings - Take classes tuition-free! A five-credit college course is typically around $600.
  • Access to College Services - You have access to EvCC services while participating in the Running Start program.

Things to Consider

Dual credit programs offer high school students the opportunity to earn college credit to save on future tuition costs and get a head start on educational and career goals. Below are three major aspects to consider before earning college credit.

College Transcript

College transcripts are permanent and grades cannot be erased. Grades earned in a dual credit program will count toward a student’s college Grade Point Average (GPA) and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for enrollment and financial aid purposes. Additionally, you will need to provide proof of college education attainment at most other higher education institutions and some employment opportunities.

Financial Aid Impact

Any attempted credits, including credit attempted by high school students through a dual credit program (CTE Dual Credit, College in the High School, Running Start), on a college transcript could impact your financial aid eligibility. It may affect the length of time a student can receive state and federal financial aid. Grades earned in a dual credit program will count toward a student’s college Grade Point Average (GPA) and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for enrollment and financial aid purposes.

FERPA

Dual credit students enrolled in dual credit programs (CTE Dual Credit, College in the High School, Running Start) are considered regular college students and are protected by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). It is a federal law that protects student information and puts the ownership of a student’s higher education academic records and account information on the student regardless of age. Parents and family members do not have access to students’ grades, class schedules, and other protected information. A student may choose to release or not release information to individuals via a form

Running Start Forms

Running Start Enrollment Verification Form (RSEVF) and High School Equivalency Charts

Each quarter students are required to submit a Running Start Enrollment Verification Form (RSEVF) completed and signed by a high school counselor. This form communicates the student's high school information with the college and will determine their quarterly eligibility for tuition-free credits. The form can be submitted via email to runningstart@everettcc.edu. We accept digitally filled-out forms as well as pictures or scanned documents. If a student doesn't have access to a scanner, they must make sure to take a clear picture from above the document so that the form is a clear image. The form must be submitted at least a week before class registration.

If you have Free/Reduced Priced Lunch (FRPL), make sure the RFPL section on the RSEVF is fully completed and signed!

Below are charts of course equivalencies between some high schools or school districts with community colleges. These charts outline what college classes a high school accepts to satisfy graduation requirements. These charts are not a list of graduation requirements. Always refer to your high school counselor to verify course equivalencies and graduation requirements.

Advising

All new EvCC students must meet with an Entry Advisor to complete their enrollment process. Students intending to pursue and take courses in Cosmetology and Advanced Manufacturing may also meet with a program advisor or attend an information session. A registration hold will be placed on student accounts until this step is completed.

Entry Advising is done on a drop-in basis so there is no need for an appointment. Please note that EvCC advisors may only provide information regarding college courses. Students should meet with their high school counselors to discuss high school graduation requirements.
All students will be assigned a program advisor after the 4th week during their first quarter at EvCC based on the Pathway/Program they declared on their Running Start Application.

Students can view their assigned advisors in one of two ways:

If you have any questions about Advising, please visit www.everettcc.edu/advising for contact information or the Zoom Link for drop-in. The Advising Center can help with general questions along the way but may refer you to a program/faculty advisor for specific program-related questions.
