Unexpected Health Conditions

On This Page

What are the options for students who acquire an acute health condition while taking classes at Everett Community College?

1. Remember that your health is a priority!

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, always call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. If you are in crisis, there are contacts available 24/7 on the Snohomish County Crisis Support handout pdf file icon.

Always follow the care instructions of your healthcare provider.

If you need help getting non-emergency medical care, you can call the Community Health Center of Snohomish County, located on EvCC’s main north Everett campus in Liberty Hall, 930 North Broadway. To speak with someone at the clinic, call 425-595-3900. CHC serves insured, low-income and uninsured people. If you have questions about insurance or fees, ask to speak with an insurance specialist to learn your options.

2. Communicate with your instructors!

Instructors may have academic resources available for some students to complete the course, depending on the student’s situation and how much time is left in the quarter. Email your instructors or message them in Canvas or Starfish!!

3. Withdrawal From Your Classes

While EvCC does not have a "Medical/Hardship Withdrawal" procedure, you can still withdraw from classes and file a petition for any unusual circumstances. This includes medical reasons, bereavement and others. This petition is to request a 100% refund and/or have the course removed from your transcript. Here at EvCC that process is called the Refunds and Policy Exception.  The entire process is outlined in the next section.

How do I Withdraw?

Everett Community College does not offer a "Medical Withdrawal." For more information and details about the withdrawal process and policy, visit Enrollment Procedures.

You will need to submit the following information as soon as you are able, preferably before the quarter is over. Once the quarter has been completed, there may be some delay in processing petitions.

Please note that if you request a withdrawal using this process, you must drop all of your classes for the quarter.

Specific Information for Withdrawing Students Who Receive Financial Aid

  • If you are a student who receives financial aid, contact the Financial Aid office as quickly as possible. They review each situation individually.
  • When you are able to go back to taking classes, you will need to follow the directions to petition for financial aid reinstatement. When you withdraw from classes, the Financial Aid office emails this information to you.

Withdrawing with the Refunds and Policy Exception

The College's normal refund schedule is described on the web, in handouts, in the college mailer and the catalog. Students who wish to be considered for a refund beyond those regular deadlines must withdraw from the courses and submit a petition with supporting documentation. Petitions are only considered from students who submit documentation of a call to active military duty due to a national emergency, or a severe and unexpected illness which began during the quarter, and precludes any and all activity. Reserve duty training does not constitute active military duty. Submitting a petition does not guarantee its approval. Students must submit the petition during the quarter that they are requesting a refund.
