How to Apply for SummerSmart and Enroll in Classes
STEP 1: Submit the EvCC Running Start online application through our Online Admissions Application Portal.
View our step-by-step How to Apply to the EvCC Running Start Program guide (Google Slides).
- Select Everett Community College as your intended college.
- Select Running Start student.
- Select Academic or Professional-Technical as your intended program. It is okay if you are not intending to seek a degree from EvCC. This will ensure you are assigned a faculty advisor while you are an EvCC student.
- Select your intended start term (quarter). Only select Summer if you plan to take Summer Running Start classes before the Fall quarter.
- Select a degree, or choose Academic Transfer DTA as your intended degree if you're unsure.
Once your Running Start application is processed, you will receive an email with your ctcLink student ID number and the next steps on completing placement.
Step 2: Complete Placement: Students must meet the pre-requisites for the course(s) they wish to take for the quarter. Step-by-step instructions on how to sign up for the Placement Test can be found here: Placement Test page.
Step 3: Complete the Online Orientation - Recommended, but not required!
Step 4: Activate Your ctcLink Account
ctcLink is a mobile-friendly self-service portal where students can access registration, grades, academic progress, finances, and much more. All new students must activate their ctcLink accounts before logging in for the first time. This is a one-time process. If you have already activated your ctcLink account, skip this step.
- Follow and complete all the steps on the How to Activate ctcLink account page to activate your account.
Step 5: Complete mandatory Entry Advising
- All new students are required to meet with an Entry Advisor, regardless of their intended program. Placement must be completed before this meeting.
- Drop-in entry advising can be done in-person or online with the Advising Center.
Step 6: Look up Classes & Get Registered
- Look up the class(es) you want in our Class Schedule. Click on the interested quarter, then the class(es) you are interested in taking for the quarter.
- Request instructor permission for every class you wish to take. Instructors' contact information can be found on our online directory. Let the instructor know that you are an underage student and you need written permission to take the class. The instructor is not compelled to give approval, and should be convinced that the student can function in his/her class. If an instructor says "no" for any reason, you'll have to find a different class. Please note, instructor permission is valid for 2 business days once the quarter starts. Please forward your emails to us as soon as you can as spots may fill up in the class. If the class is full, you will be added to the waitlist if it's available.
- Forward all emails with instructor permission to runningstart@everettcc.edu.
Step 7: Pay tuition and fees online: Please visit our Cashiers Office page for more information on how to make a payment and/or view your tuition and fees.

Special Underage Students pay regular tuition rates and are not eligible for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington State Financial Aid (WAFSA).
